Loose Leaf Notes

It was a time period in which reading was a great teacher for me. Experience is the only teacher we have. The Upanishads have been a door to the Divine Mysteries for thousands of years. This book is a knock on our door where life waits to take us in its arms; where Love simmers in the cauldron of our remembering. The door to these is the heart. It is at the core of every heart whether human, plant, animal or mineral. It is something that one feels at the core of one’s own being. When we launched our bimonthly theme From Asia With Love, one of my resolutions was to familiarize myself with Janet Wong’s poetry which is oft-celebrated during Poetry Friday. And yet it is I who am doing all this; there cannot be twenty people in this one body. That the functions which are beneath consciousness are also performed by us, only we are doing it unconsciously. It can go beyond consciousness. Our larger life events and the day-to-day still small moments can both break us open, and make us more whole. When we shifted to the left and held the pose, instead of offering more instruction, Jeanne played a short recording of Emily Dickinson’s poetry for us to focus on. She was named a 2014 Poetry Book Society Next Generation Poet. And so, was birthed, The Poetry of Yoga book idea. But this isn’t a how-to book. In this book is a map to endless bliss. Get the book and read in awe and wonder… I read your story and thought that I would add a little information in the hope that it will help a little. But by practice men can bring even the heart under control, until it will just beat at will, slowly, or quickly, Poetry About Yoga or almost stop. The heart is beating apparently without our control. Nearly every part of the body can be brought under control. At the same time, there is a very great part of my existence of which I am not conscious. That part of mind-work which is unaccompanied with the feeling of egoism is unconscious work, and that part which is accompanied with the feeling of egoism is conscious work. That cannot be, because it can be demonstrated that almost every action of which we are now unconscious can be brought up to the plane of consciousness.

There is a still higher plane upon which the mind can work. The feeling of egoism is only on the middle plane. Just as unconscious work is beneath consciousness, so there is another work which is above consciousness, and which also is not accompanied with the feeling of egoism. In the lower animals this unconscious work is called instinct. We see, as human beings, that all our knowledge which is called rational is referred to consciousness. In higher animals, and in the highest of all animals, man, what is called conscious work prevails. Can we approach our daily work with true joy and passion, no matter how humble or tiring? Incorporating Yoga ideas into our daily lives may help us develop a greater awareness and respect for the environment while also affecting actual change. Brahman is awareness – changeless, motionless and empty yet that which grants aliveness to all things. She is the cosmic mind that directs all things.
