When Brett Goldstein, Jason Segel and Bill Lawrence were asked how they got Harrison Ford to appear on the show, Segel said that Goldstein initially wanted a “Harrison Ford type” and would audition people who looked like Ford. Segel told Goldstein that he had to at least bring it to Ford first, thinking he would immediately turn him down, but at least other people would hear that Harrison Ford was being brought on board, generating interest from other top actors.

Goldstein still doesn’t understand what he did to convince him, but he was thrilled nonetheless.. From the reviews I read here, people either seem to love this show or hate it quite intensely, and it seems like it might depend on the reviewers’ reaction to Jason Segal.
The relationships are complex and emotional, and the very real human challenges are well-drawn
I’ve enjoyed his movies and think he’s perfect for the role — and the addition of Harrison Ford takes the show to an even higher level. The writing is excellent, the story is fresh, and the characters are original without going overboard into being too stereotypically weird.
I highly recommend it!
It can be laugh-out-loud funny the next minute, and it can bring tears to my eyes the next. I was really disappointed after the second episode when I realized I was going to have to wait longer.
